Lion

Based on Saroo Brierley’s autobiography A Long Way Home, Lion takes you on an emotional journey as a 5 year old Indian boy (Sunny Pawar) follows his brother Guddu (Abhisek Bharate) to work and they arrive at a train station, where Saroo stays and await Guddu’s return. When Guddu does not return, Saroo searches for him and boards a train which departs the station before he can get off. He falls asleep in an empty train car and is taken 1600 km from home to Calcutta.

Saroo survives living on the streets before ending up in an orphanage. He wounds up being adopted by a couple (Nicole Kidman and David Wenham) in Australia. 25 years later drawing on his memories and help with Google earth, Saroo (now played by Dev Patel) sets out to find his lost family.

The cast is sensational. Sunny Pawar wonderfully plays young Saroo who will capture your heart. Dev Patel gives the best performance of his career since Slumdog Millionaire. Nicole Kidman shines as Saroo’s adopted mother.

Adapted by Luke Davis (Candy) and directed by Garth Davis, Lion is a delivers a powerful, visually stunning and inspirational film that will leave a lasting impression. Lion is the must see film of year. If you’re in the mood a heart wrenching drama with a captivating ending then this is for you.
