Beauty and the Beast is a live action remake of the 1991 classic Disney animated film. Based on the fairy-tale about a prince (Dan Stevens) who is magically transformed into a hideous beast as punishment for his arrogance, and Belle (Emma Watson), a beautiful young woman whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, Beast must win her love in return. Otherwise, he will remain a monster forever. Throughout the film, Beast embarks on a spiritual journey to become a better person and earn back his humanity while Belle sees sees the humanity within Beast and slowly develops feelings for him.
The cast is marvellous. Emma Watson is perfectly cast as Belle. She brings radiance and grace to the iconic role. Dan Stevens is superb as the prince/beast. Luke Evans gives a solid performance as the villain Gaston. Delightful performances from supporting cast Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.
Though the film lacks some originality as the plot and music is the same as the animated film, it’s enjoyable film to watch. Director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 1&2) delivers an impressive, mesmerising and stylish musical. Wonderful and lavish production design by Sarah Greenwood.
Beauty and the Beast is amazing. Visually stunning and entertaining with a stellar cast. Enjoyable to watch from beginning to end and fun for the whole family, Beauty and the Beast will not be a disappointment for fans of the 1991 animated film and Disney films.
